OSHKOSH - Residents still have to wear a face covering in public spaces after city council voted in support of extending the local mask ordinance already in place.
Council members voted 5-2 in support of the measure at Tuesday s board meeting. Originally set to expire April 30, the extended mandate will now expire May 31, unless Winnebago County reaches a 50% vaccination rate or the City of Oshkosh terminates the state of emergency.
As of Tuesday, 30% of county residents are fully vaccinated, and 39% have received their first dosage of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The local mask mandate requires every person 5 years old or older to wear a face covering in enclosed public spaces or while using public transportation. It was put into place last month after the Supreme Court overturned Gov. Evers statewide mask mandate.
