WCHD Advises Residents To Not Travel To Wisconsin, Again
Back in June of 2020, Winnebago County entered Phase 4 of mitigation as part of the
Restore Illinois Plan. In October, the mitigation increased as the area continues to fight and navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier this week, Winnebago County Health Department (WCHD) released an updated Travel Guidance for residents a few days before mitigation in Illinois is expected to loosen.
Part of this travel guidance includes a list of states Winnebago County residents are discouraged from visiting, no matter what the reason is. Guess what? Wisconsin is back on the list. On the flip side, WCHD dropped four other states from the list. As a refresher, here is what is expected should you travel to a don t go there state.
ROCKFORD Three new free drive-thru COVID-19 testing sites are available in Rockford in an effort to improve access across the city.
In partnership with the Muslim Association of Greater Rockford and Islamic Circle of North America, O Hare Clinical Lab Services of Chicago opened the three testing facilities last week to ensure residents are served with fast and free COVID-19 testing results within 48 hours.
Insurance isn’t required and all are welcome, regardless of immigration status, said community organizer Mustafa Abdall.
He said he saw the need when one of the city’s two drive-thru COVID-19 testing sites closed in December. The site on Rockton Avenue, which was operated by Crusader Community Health, closed before Christmas.

The Winnebago County Health Department reported Wednesday that COVID-19 vaccination is proceeding smoothly.
Public Health Administrator Sandra Martell said among the different health care systems, more than 10,000 doses of the vaccine have been administered. During a COVID-19 update livestreamed on WREX, Martell announced 104 new cases. And unfortunately, we have lost two additional of our community residents, which brings our total death count to 380, she said.
Martell said the Department aims to vaccinate at least 5,000 people each week while doses are available.
She s also warning residents to be wary of scammers trying to take advantage of people seeking vaccinations. Martell noted this can come in the form of phone calls.
