Fox News Sean Hannity politicizes Winnebago County Sheriff s shooting

ROCKFORD  Fox News host Sean Hannity on Wednesday seized on the Winnebago County Sheriff s Department s fatal shooting of Faustin Guetigo to mount a defense of police following the murder conviction of former Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin. Hannity played part of a video released by Sheriff Gary Caruana that included body worn camera footage of the fatal April 10 police shooting. The video appears toward the end of a longer segment. The portion about Winnebago County starts at 14:25 in the video above. Hannity told his viewers that for police behind every door, danger is lurking before arguing that Democrats paint police as all evil.

Sheriff s department release body camera footage of fatal shooting

When asked by the deputy, Do you think he might kill you? Ndoroum  replied, Maybe. I don t know. Carauna said the deputy determined that aggravated battery had occurred and that the deputy is mandated by state law to arrest the offender. About 5:30 p.m., Ndoroum called authorities again, this time from a nearby residence to say that her husband had returned and broke her phone and took her car keys. A deputy arrived at the residence and confronted Guetigo outside of the home. Guetigo is seen repeatedly pulling away from the deputy to avoid being arrested. Ndoroum also is seen walking from the residence across the street to her home and trying to intervene between her husband and the deputy.

Winnebago County Sheriff s Department investigated after shooting

ROCKFORD An investigation into the fatal shooting of 27-year-old Faustin Guetigo by a Winnebago County Sheriff s Department deputy will help State s Attorney J. Hanley determine if the shooting was legal. But it will not delve into questions about whether the actions deputies took April 10 as they confronted Guetigo at his Bellwort Drive residence were right or wrong, in accordance with policy or best practices, or if those policies are appropriate or should be changed. Those questions could be part of an internal review that will commence only after the Winnebago-Boone County Integrity Task Force completes its investigation into the shooting, County Board Chairman Joe Chiarelli said.

Winnebago County Sheriff s Deputy opened fire on man, then hit in head

ROCKFORD Winnebago County Sheriff s Department Sgt. Joseph Broullard on Saturday opened fire on a man suspected of domestic battery who charged at him with a metal pipe, authorities said Thursday. Despite suffering what were ultimately fatal wounds, the man, Faustin Guetigo, 27, continued up a flight of basement stairs and swung the pipe at Broullard, hitting the sergeant on the head. Both Broullard and Guetigo fell to the floor. Another officer, identified as Deputy Gabriel Eiten, opened fire from outside the Bellwort Drive residence, shattering a screen door. That s according to preliminary information about the shooting released by Winnebago County State s Attorney J. Hanley, who said that a Winnebago-Boone County Integrity Task Force investigation is continuing.
