WINONA Three cars collided in Winona Tuesday evening, causing life-threatening injuries to the driver of one of the vehicles.
Javon Nicholas Kunkel, 23, or Rochester, was driving south on Pelzer Street, approaching the intersection with U.S. Highway 61, about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday when his 2012 Hyundai Elantra entered the intersection and collided with two northbound vehicles; a 2015 Lexus RX driven by Trang Thu Thi Le, 50, of Rochester, and a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Karla Ann Winter, 45, of Winona. According to a Minnesota State Patrol report, Kunkel tested positive for alcohol in his system.
Winona County Sheriff’s Office:
4:19 p.m. Copper wire was reported stolen from a cell phone tower at the 27,000 block of County Rd. 15.
Winona Police Department:
10:42 a.m. 32-year-old Mattew N. Short of Rochester was arrested for allegedly stealing a vehicle from the Plazza Hotel parking lot on March 1. Short was arrested by Rochester Police who say he attempted to flee.
A resident at the 700 block of West 9th St. reported someone had broken out their vehicle window in recent nights.
A resident at the 700 block of West 10th St. reported a window of their home was shot out. Officers say they found a paintball at the scene.

2/19, 7:07 p.m. 21-year-old Ryan J. Casey of Nashotah, Wis. was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance after being stopped for an equipment violation in the area of 4th and Center Streets. Charges are pending the results of a blood test. Â
2/19, 11:23 p.m. Ashley R. Saunders of Oregon, Wis. was arrested on suspicion of fourth-degree DWI after authorities say she was spotted weaving in and out of traffic lanes on Highway 61 near Interstate 90. Deputies say she had a .12 Blood Alcohol Content (BAC). Â
