WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-An Earth Day Cleanup event, coordinated by the Winona Main Street Program, collected nearly 78 gallons of trash from the downtown area.
That’s according to Main Street Program Director Ben Strand. He said a team of volunteers walked down 2nd and 3rd Streets in-between Franklin and Johnson Streets.
“It was a super successful event,” said Strand. “We had about 30 total volunteers and it was just great to see that kind of turnout from people to help clean up our downtown and to keep it safe and inviting for everybody to come and enjoy.”

(KWNO)- Organizers of one of the few community-wide events last year and hoping to hold it again this year.
Dine Out Downtown, put on by the Winona Main Street Program, took advantage of relaxed ordinances that allowed downtown businesses to move themselves out onto 3rd St. Friday nights. Main Street’s Ben Strand is confident the new council will go for it.
“Even with some new members in the council and a new mayor I think most of them either knew about or participated in Dine out Downtown and were super excited with how it turned out,” said Strand.
