WINCHESTER, Ontario – Together, they have a combined 104.5 years of experience in the medical field. This week, the Winchester District Memorial Hospital said goodbye to Debbie Stuart, Dawn Erickson and Karen Froats as they go off into retirement. Stuart, Erickson, and Froats have been employed for 33, 36, and 35 years respectively.
Stuart began her career in the WDMH kitchen, then became a Dietary Aide and finally, a Ward Clerk. Stuart says she enjoyed all of it.

WINCHESTER, Ontario – In a difficult fundraising year, the Sisters for Life still managed to raise $33,038.54 for local causes.
Some of the money raised has been given to the Canadian Cancer Society for their regional Wheels of Hope program, which helps cancer patients get to their medical appointments. Funding will also be gong to the Canadian Cancer Society’s Immunotherapeutics Research Project, which aims at fighting the ravaging effects cancer has on the body.

WINCHESTER, Ontario – During the COVID-19 pandemic, Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) welcomed a new staff member. Heather Houlahan is a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RT) and brings new expertise and experience to the team.
“We wanted to ensure we had the best team available to support any COVID-19 patients at WDMH as well as other patients with respiratory concerns,” explains Nathalie Boudreau, Vice President, Clinical Services. “Heather provides crucial, specialized knowledge and is a great addition to WDMH.”
Respiratory Therapists specialize in critical care and cardio-pulmonary medicine. They are often involved in crisis situations, supporting patients suffering from acute critical conditions, cardiac and lung disease. They often work closely with anesthetists to provide patient respiratory c

WINCHESTER, Ontario – The WDMH Foundation has received $95,193 in grant funding from the CMA Foundation’s COVID-19 Community Hospital Fund. The funds will be used to purchase new equipment and to support focused training and education for critical care nurses.
The CMA Foundation is the charitable arm of the Canadian Medical Association and provides impactful charitable giving that furthers excellence in health care. This funding is part of the CMA Foundation’s COVID-19 relief initiative to support those on the frontline of this pandemic.

The first baby of 2021 born at the Cornwall Community Hospital arrived nearly right on schedule.
Crew Vandeglind, born to Dakota and Kendra Vandeglind at about 6:50 a.m. on Saturday, was actually supposed to make his grand appearance Sunday.

“He was right on time pretty much,” Kendra told the Standard-Freeholder.
The boy is the second son for the Vandeglinds. According to his mother, his birth was fast and did not present any issues.
“It was a speedy one,” she added.
Both parents outlined that despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, delivery of Crew was not as complicated as they initially had thought it would be.
