Upper Enham shooting: Inquest dates for Nash and Sartain set

The dates for the inquests of the men at the heart of a shooting in Upper Enham last year have been revealed. Councillor James Nash was shot on August 5 at his home in the village last year, and died three days later in Southampton General Hospital. The 42-year-old’s inquest will be held on April 19. The man suspected of shooting him, Alex Sartain, subsequently died in a motorbike crash on August 5 while being pursued by police officers. His inquest will be held on April 21. He failed to stop for officers, and subsequently crashed on the A343. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A FUNDRAISER set up in memory of a Deliveroo driver in Basingstoke who died in a fatal collision last year has raised more than £10,000. Marcos Vinicius Macedo Martins was driving his 2016 Honda moped less than 1,000 metres from his home when he collided with the back of a stationary lorry on Churchill Way on Tuesday, May 19 2020. At the inquest into his death at Winchester Coroners Court yesterday (January 28), senior coroner Mr Christopher Wilkinson declared the tragic incident an accidental death , caused by Marcos being distracted by his smartphone, which was attached to the moped. A moving procession in tribute to the father-of-one was carried out by fellow delivery drivers shortly after his death.

A tee-total company director who drowned in a pond at her £1.3million country house was four-and-a-half times over the drink-drive limit and had rocks and bricks tied in knots in her clothes, an inquest heard today. Annabel Lucas, 61, was found dead by her brother on the grounds of her Grade II-listed rural home on the outskirts of Basingstoke, Hampshire - three days after her last known contact with anyone. She was discovered at the 500-year-old property with objects including rocks, stones and bricks inside a series of well-tied knots in her clothing around her head, it was heard. However, mystery remains over how the relatively slight woman became so intoxicated and how she came to drown on March 3, 2019.

Inquest found woman died after taking friends prescription

Julia Ann Ballard, 66, died at her friends flat in Milton Close, Oakridge in April last year. At an inquest into her death today (Tuesday, January 26), Winchester Coroner s Court heard how she died after misusing drugs just months after overcoming her alcohol addiction. The court heard a statement written by her GP at Crown Heights Medical Centre which detailed that Julia had been battling an alcohol addiction since 2013. In January 2019 it was recorded that she was consuming around two litres of vodka each week but by December 2019 she made huge progress and had given up drinking for six weeks. A toxicology report from the post-mortem detected no alcohol, but high levels of Morphine as well as Diazepam and Zopiclone in Julia’s system, all of which are central nervous system depressants.
