To the editor: Town Meeting Day is always important to Vermonters and gives us the chance to elect leaders and decide on issues where it hits us the most, at the local level. As with everything else, the COVID-19 pandemic forced changes to how voting will take place on March 2.
Many towns in Vermont are postponing the traditional town hall meeting. In Brattleboro, there will be no early voting at the Municipal Building, but that shouldn t stop you from voting. As a Justice of the Peace and member of the Brattleboro Board of Civil Authority, I join with my fellow election officials and urge you to vote absentee.

BRATTLEBORO â As information on the potential impact of breaking up the Windham Southeast School District is coming out, so is a lot of opposition.
On March 2, voters in the WSESD will be asked if their town should withdraw from the district. Theyâll also consider if their town should approve and ratify the withdrawal of Brattleboro, Dummerston, Guilford and/or Putney from the district.
If a town votes no on the first article, it will remain part of WSESD. If a town votes no on the second article, it will prohibit other towns from withdrawing.

Town Meeting Day is coming up in just over a week, and this year brings two simple-sounding but dramatic ballot articles for voters in Brattleboro, Putney, Dummerston, and Guilford: âShall the voters of the Town of.authorize the Town to withdraw from the Windham Southeast School District?â and âShall the voters of the Town of . conditionally approve and ratify the withdrawal of the [the other towns in the district] from the Windham Southeast School District, subject to the certification of results from the respective Town votes to withdraw on March 2, 2021?â

BRATTLEBORO â Phone lines went down and mislabeled garbage bags went out, causing some frustration around town.
When postcards about absentee ballots for the March 2 election started going out last week, the townâs phone lines stopped working for about two days due to an issue within the system that affected other groups as well. The stateâs online My Voter Page also wasnât working around the same time.
âThe card is encouraging people to either call the town clerkâs office or go to MyVoterPage and people were striking out in both efforts through no fault of their own,â Town Manager Peter Elwell said at the Select Board meeting held remotely Tuesday. âThere was a lot of frustration around that understandably.â
