OTTAWA The Ottawa Redblacks have re-signed American linebacker Avery Williams.
The Temple University product had 69 defensive tackles with Ottawa in 2019, his second year with the team.
In 28 games over two seasons, Williams has 112 defensive tackles, seven special-teams tackles and two sacks.

WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed American receiver Kenny Lawler to a one-year extension.
Lawler was named the Bombers top rookie in 2019 after leading the club with 637 receiving yards on 41 receptions. He also scored four touchdowns.

WINNIPEG The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and American receiver Kenny Lawler have agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension, the club announced Wednesday. The former University of California standout is returning for a second season in Winnipeg. Lawler was named the team’s Most Outstanding Rookie Player in 2019. He started in 16 regular-season games that year, leading the club with 637 receiving yards on 41 receptions, including four touchdowns and adding 126 receiving yards on 8 receptions through three playoff games which included a touchdown in Winnipeg’s West Final win against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Regina. Before joining the Bombers, Lawler attended B.C. Lions training camp in 2018 before being released and was the Seattle Seahawks seventh-round pick at the 2016 NFL Draft, spending time on the team’s practice squad through 2017.

The Ottawa Redblacks have their new man under centre.
On Tuesday, the team officially introduced Matt Nichols as its new quarterback for the 2021-22 season, pending the season happens.
The 33-year-old pivot says after a tumultuous offseason, which saw him released by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, signed and released by the Toronto Argonauts, and signed again by the Redblacks – he’s just ready to get back to football.
“I mean, I’ve played some of my best football in that stadium.” Nichols said. “All these things kind of came together where this was an opportunity for me. It was a no-brainer and I just jumped at it, made a quick decision and you go with your gut feelings and what feels right and coming to Ottawa is what felt right to me and my family and we couldn’t be more excited for how it worked out.”
