Darryl “Farmer Nappy” Henry has won the 2021 International Soca Monarch (ISM), rebranded The Monarch, with his popular pandemic hit Backyard Jam.
What was considered an unusual competition setting for this type of event, Farmer Nappy along with ten other competitors performed without an audience at the National Academy for the Performing Arts, Port of Spain, in a pre-recorded final that aired on TV6 on Friday night.

CATCHING UP: Veteran calypsonians Austin Superblue Lyons and Michael Sugar Aloes Osuna have a chat at the cultural tribute for the late Sandra Singing Sandra Des Vignes-Millington at Queen s Hall, St Ann s on Wednesday. - SUREASH CHOLAI
Many stories were told in song and word on Wednesday of the late Sandra “Singing Sandra” Des Vignes-Millington’s generosity of spirit to younger artistes, her love for her community and country and her willingness to use her voice to tell the stories of those often unheard.
In a cultural farewell at Queen’s Hall, St Ann’s Road, Port of Spain, family, calypsonians, politicians, friends and well-wishers paid tribute and said goodbye to the two-time Calypso monarch. She died on January 28 at 64.

Port-of-Spain - Minister of Social Development and Family Services, Senator the Honourable Donna Cox paid her respects to Ms. Sandra Des Vignes-Millington, also known as Singing Sandra, at a cultural farewell ceremony in Queens Hall earlier today. Also in attendance were Senator the Honourable Randall Mitchell, Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, Senator the Honourable Fitzgerald Hinds, Minister of Youth Development and National Family Services and the Member of Parliament for Laventille West, Mr. Winston ‘Gypsy’ Peters, Chairman of National Carnival Commission and Mr. Ancil Roget, the President of the Oilfield Workers Trade Union. Numerous calypsonians such as Sugar Aloes, Chalk Dust and Super Blue paid tribute to the cultural icon.
