In February last year, the Chennai airport used to have nearly 250 departures and arrivals every day. But now, the air traffic has come down by 50%. Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials said that on average, 21,000-22,000 passengers travelled every day. “Both passenger traffic and the number of flights we handle have been stagnant for a while now. But this is expected during March and April. Owing to examinations and other factors, the traffic doesn’t go up at all during these months,” an official said.

DAE serves SpiceJet grounding notice on three leased aircraft April 07, 2021 × Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) has sent grounding notices for 3 aircraft leased to SpiceJet over dues pending for over five months. According to government sources, the grounding notice was sent to both SpiceJet as well as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), earlier this month. Another source said that DAE has sent a grounding notice for three aircraft; MSN 36694 (VT-SYW), MSN 36695 ( VT-SYX), and MSN 36698 ( VT-SYY) which were leased to SpiceJet. All three of these B737-85R aircraft were earlier with Jet Airways. “A notice has been sent to both the DGCA and SpiceJet regarding the grounding. DAE has also written to SpiceJet seeking Aerodrome Entry Permit (AEP) for one of the its representatives,” said a source.

The Tribunal Reforms (Rationalisation and Conditions of Service) Ordinance 2021 scraps IPAB, among other tribunals, with effectively now high courts expected to take up disputes of patents, trademarks and geographical indications, while copyright matters will be heard in commercial courts. The move, which has come as a shock in legal circles, is possibly being done after the earlier plan of scrapping IPAB through the legislative route was strongly opposed, experts say, adding that it may lead to delays
