Vietnamese authorities have suspended entry into Vietnam by people from India, Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos as a measure to contain the increasing COVID-19 spread, the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos has said. The suspension applies to those who have stayed in or transited these countries within 21 days before their expected entrance into Vietnam, except for special cases, the Vietnam News Agency cited the embassy’s notice as saying on Monday. In its notice, the embassy said the new rule does not apply to foreigners who escort shipments transported to Vietnam and later leave the country after the goods have been unloaded, without any contact with locals.

Photo: Duy Thanh / Tuoi Tre The Vietnam Fisheries Society (Vinafish) has strongly rejected China’s fishing ban in the East Vietnam Sea, affirming that Beijing has no right to impose such a prohibition in the Vietnamese waters. Vinafish released its vehement opposition on Wednesday after China announcedon April 27 its 2021 fishing ban, effective from May 1, an action that the society deemed unilateral, unruly, and wrongful. The ban, which is scheduled to last until September 16, applies to certain areas in the East Vietnam Sea that encompass a part of the Gulf of Tonkin and Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago under Vietnamese sovereignty.
