Risk appetite on Bursa improves

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia was higher at midday on Wednesday, with steady buying seen in smaller capitalised stocks, as investor sentiment perked up following the better showing by key Asian markets. At 12.30pm, the FBM KLCI was up 2.29 points or 0.14% to 1,637.28. Turnover was 4.72 billion shares valued at RM1.88bil. Advancers led decliners 563 to 455 while 469 counters were unchanged. The ringgit was quoted at 4.0401 to the US dollar. Reuters reported China and Hong Kong shares posted robust gains, with the blue-chip CSI300 index rising to its highest in more than five years, as Asian stocks hit a record high on hopes of a strong economic recovery next year.

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 30): Toyo Ventures Holdings Bhd’s share and warrant (Toyoven-WB) prices hit limit up to settle at their highest so far today at Bursa Malaysia’s afternoon break after the company said yesterday it had executed a build, operate and transfer (BOT) contract with the Vietnamese government for the planned development of an approximately US$3.23 billion (about RM13.05 billion) power plant there. On Bursa at 12.30pm today, Toyo Ventures share price settled 30 sen or 30% higher at RM1.30, while Toyoven-WB had risen 30 sen or 153.85% to 49.5 sen. At RM1.30, Toyo Ventures had a market capitalisation of about RM139.1 million based on the company’s number of issued shares at 107 million units.

Firm close for Bursa, Press Metal, Hartalega boost KLCI

and Top Glove underpinned the FBM KLCI’s advance. At 5pm, the KLCI was up 9.42 points or 0.58% to 1,644.41. Turnover was 7.81 billion shares valued at RM3.65bil. Advancers led decliners 656 to 508 while 465 counters were unchanged. Investors’ risk appetite perked up following the rally in key Asian markets, with Hong Kong, China and South Korea among the top gainers. At Bursa, despite some profit taking in the last hour of trade, last minute buying helped the KLCI close higher. Consumer stocks were mixed with F&N rallying 96 sen to RM32.68 and Dutch Lady 78 sen to RM37.88 but Heneiken fell 24 sen to RM23.20.
