New container terminals to be built in Hai Phong
A project building container terminals No 3 and 4 at the Hai Phong International Gateway Port in the Lach Huyen Port area was launched in the northern port city on May 12.
With a total length of 750 metres and a width of 50 metres, the two terminals will be able to berth 160 TEU (3,000 DWT) vessels. The project’s total area is 47 ha.
Approved by the Prime Minister on January 9, 2019, the project is scheduled to be totally completed in 2024, one year earlier than planned.
Auto sales signal recovery with 58 pct surge

Vietnam s auto sales in the first four months surged 58 percent year-on-year to 101,309 units, signaling a recovery from last year s pandemic impacts.
This sales figure marked an increase of over 3,600 units from the same period last year when the first wave of Covid-19 had hit the country, according to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA).
The sale of passenger and commercial vehicles were respectively up 55 percent and 66 percent year-on-year, it said.
The Truong Hai Auto Corporation (Thaco) led sales with a year-on-year increase of 73 percent to 35,389 units, followed by Toyota with 18,973 units, up 15 percent.

The Ministry of Finance has just responded to the petition of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) on additional support policies for businesses facing difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Ministry said that over the past time, to solve difficulties for businesses, organizations, households and individuals, including those in the automobile manufacturing and assembly industry, caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, many policies to support all economic sectors have been issued.

Specifically, the country imported 49,360 completely-built automobiles worth more than 1.1 billion U.S. dollars, up 55.2 percent in volume and 57.2 percent in value, according to the country s General Statistics Office on Friday.
In 2020, total automobile sales in Vietnam stood at 296,634 units, down 8 percent year on year, according to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association.
