Polio vaccination campaign underway in Eastern Equatoria State
Eastern Equatoria state last Friday launched a mass polio vaccination campaign targeting more than 300,000 children under five years of age.
Authorities say the campaign which is expected to continue for five days, is in response to 15 confirmed cases across the country including Torit county recently.
Eastern Equatoria state Expanded Program on Immunization or EPI manager Mr. Oler Charles Adelino says the campaign will reach all the state s eight counties.
“We were certified as a country free from polio but unfortunately in few a months, there were 15 cases from 5 states confirmed of Polio 2. One case was found in Torit county in Bur Payam, Mutaram village. This is a response to that otherwise it is going to take us back from what we have already achieved but let us fight all of us together mothers, caregivers, community, and the high authority in the government, Oler said.

DAKAR, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) Dr. Mamadou Ndiaye, the director of Prevention of Senegalese Ministry of Health and Social Action, announced on Tuesday that the first doses of anti-COVID-19 vaccine will be available in Senegal from March 2021.
During an interview with radio Sud FM, Dr. Ndiaye said that members of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, including Senegal, would have these first doses after approval by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Dr. Ndiaye explained that Gavi members were guaranteed to have their first doses by the end of the first quarter of 2021 through a partnership with WHO, UNICEF, World Bank and the European Union.

A representative of GSK Vietnam told
VIR that this is the vaccine for prevention of diseases caused by Haemophilus Influenzae type b bacteria for children, which have been already part of the current 5-in-1 vaccine provided to eligible children in the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) of the government for many years and there were other alternative vaccines available in Vietnam to serve medical needs.
âGSK has filed the application to discontinue this vaccine in Vietnam and got approval from the Drug Administration of Vietnam for discontinuation in November 2020,â she added.
