ROSARIO, La Union – Drug charges are set to be filed here against a suspected drug dealer, who tried to evade law enforcers at a police checkpoint, and yielded P500,000-worth of shabu in Barangay Udiao on Wednesday, January 6.

A former police officer who had reportedly faced drug charges was gunned down by six unidentified men in Barangay Old Balara, Quezon City Saturday night.
Police identified the fatality as Rodolfo Aspril, 60, ex-o of Barangay Old Balara. He previously faced charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Investigation revealed Aspril was going home onboard a motorcycle with Lea Ross, 42, at around 6:45 p.m. when he was ambushed.
Six unidentified men onboard three motorcycles shot Aspril multiple times, killing him instantly. The assailants fled, carting away his motorcycle as Ros, who was unhurt, sought police assistance.

It was truly “Merry Christmas” and a “Happy New Year” for eight persons who have been acquitted by the Supreme Court (SC) of drug charges and ordered immediately released from jail.
The SC’s decisions on the cases were promulgated the past two months but were made public only last December, the latest of which was last December 28.
In ordering their acquittal, the SC ruled that law enforcement agents failed to follow strictly or disregarded the procedures laid down in Republic Act No. 9165 (The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) on the handling and custody of seized illegal drugs.
