Liverpool Council’s cabinet has approved a 4.99% council tax increase as it moved one step closer to setting a balanced budget. The budget proposals, which include £15m of savings, will now go to a full council meeting next month for final approval.
One of the most contentious proposals in the budget, the replacement of all permanent in-person One Stop Shop services with pop-up services, has been scaled back.

But it had previously been lifted in September before being reinstated during the firebreak lockdown in late October. While landlords can still issue possession claims in court, bailiffs are not allowed to evict people under the ban except in certain cases, such as for anti-social behaviour. Across Wales, 219 repossession claims were lodged between October and December – up from 115 the previous three months.
