K-pop star CL honors late mother with new single Wish You Were Here – Manila Bulletin

Published February 27, 2021, 4:41 PM CL and her sister with their mother (Courtesy of Very Cherry)  K-pop star CL, former leader of girl group 2NE1, is paying a tribute to her late mother Hong Yoo-ra by releasing her new single “Wish You Were Here.”  The song arrived following her mother’s tragic passing due to heart attack on Jan. 23 at age 53 and on CL’s 30th birthday on Feb. 26, an acknowledgement of the gift of life she gave to CL.   “Every year, our birthdays should be in celebration of the Gift of Life our mothers gave us. This year, I made ‘Wish You Were Here’ for my mom, my family and anyone else who misses a loved one. If you love someone, tell them now,” CL posted on Instagram along with a photo of her and her sister with their mother.

The song, which was released today (February 26) on the K-pop star’s 30th birthday, was co-penned by CL with MNEK, Asia Whiteacre, Gary Hill and others. In an Instagram post, the K-pop star said she wrote ‘Wish You Were Here’ for her mother and her family. She also dedicated it to “anyone else who misses a loved one”. “ Cuz it’s been 6 months since I last saw you but I hope you’re okay / Can’t believe you went from mother to angel in the space of a day,” she reminiscences on the laid-back track. The song dropped alongside a music video featuring home video footage and photographs of CL growing up.

Jodie Botica and Julia Craig want to make it easier for young people to talk about loss. For many people, grief is private – and shameful. Two young women want to bring it out of the shadows. Jehan Casinader reports. Dusk was falling when Julia Craig arrived at the Devonport Folk Music Club on Auckland’s North Shore. It was a warm spring evening, perfect for a beer with mates. There was a band playing – a folk act with a double bass, a banjo and a smooth cover of Adele’s Rolling in the Deep. The music drowned out the noise in Julia’s head. Just hours earlier, she stood over her dad’s coffin.
