Brunswick area animal shelter to distribute microchip scanners to local communities

Contributed photo via Midcoast Humane Midcoast Humane, a Brunswick-based nonprofit providing animal welfare services to 40 municipalities in Maine, is launching an initiative to help keep animals in their homes with the donation of microchip scanners to Animal Control Officers in its service area. Midcoast Humane hopes the initiative will lead to a decrease in the number of companion animals entering the shelter before returning to their permanent homes.

Police Chief Commends Los Alamos County Dispatch Staff During National Public Safety Telecommunicators week By Chief Dino Sgambellone Los Alamos Police Department In honor of National Public Safety Telecommunicators week, which is celebrated April 11-17 this year, I am pleased to highlight the Los Alamos County Dispatch Center and the outstanding employees who skillfully serve the public each day.  In 2020, Los Alamos County Dispatchers received just under 43,000 phone calls, including 5,671 911 calls.  Often the first voice someone in crisis will hear, our Dispatchers receive numerous trainings throughout the year to obtain and maintain a variety of required certifications. Each of our 16 authorized positions are nationally certified as emergency medical dispatchers and emergency fire dispatchers and are state certified under the New Mexico Department of Public Safety Law Enforcement Academy.

ANIMAL WATCH-The stern face of a Pit Bull adorns the Best Friends’ Animal Society’s Facebook  announcement, “Together, We Made LA a No-Kill City,” but there is no mention of Los Angeles Animal Services nor General Manager Brenda Barnette as part of this accomplishment. Was this an oversight?  Barnette is retiring as General Manager of LAAS after a decade of  brutal attacks by Pit Bulls and other dogs with known-aggressive behavior on innocent and unsuspecting victims adopters, visitors, and employees at Los Angeles City animal shelters. These are dogs Barnette has made available for adoption, often with knowledge of their backgrounds and with written comments/warnings by shelter staff.

UPDATE: Owner of dog that bit man, mauled small dog identified (Update: April 9, 2021 @ 4 pm): The Saanich Police have provided an update on the search for a man whose dog mauled another dog at Mount Douglas Park. Police said the man came forward and is fully cooperating with animal control officers. Police are not expected to share any further details about the ongoing investigation. (Original story: April 9, 2021 @ 11:15 am): Police are looking for the owner of a dog that killed a small dog at a park in the Greater Victoria area this week. According to the Saanich Police, animal control is investigating after the dog in question bit a human and then attacked a small dog at Mount Douglas Park on Tuesday evening.
