Dramatic Duck Rescue
If you were on Van Giesen stuck in standstill traffic on Tuesday, wondering what on earth has traffic stopped, chances are it could have been my crazy daughter, making a very dramatic rescue. My daughter, Kamrace was on her way to work, running late (like mother, like daughter) when she came across five baby ducks. They were scattered in the road, usually ducks will literally stay in a row when things are normal. But sadly this wasn t normal, Mama duck was nowhere to be found and the babies were lost and scared.
Unfortunately the car just before Kamrace didn t see the babies and went over the top of them, killing two of them. Frantic and crying Kamrace pulled over and ran into the road, stopping traffic. Crying and yelling at traffic she was able to wrangle up the three frightened feathered babies. Looking through her car she found her Papa s lunch box in the trunk of the car, she secured them and went to search for mama duck, to no avail.
My West Richland Yard Suddenly Has Gophers
From the WTF Department , I ve lived in this house for almost a decade and gophers suddenly show up? My wife did a little research and ran across a post where someone else was talking about how gophers are moving around in West Richland due to all the new construction taking their fields away. But our neighborhood hasn t had any new construction nearby for quite a while, so I m wondering how far these little fellas traveled to settle in my yard.
Having grown up in Montana, I m well aware of gophers but they never ever invaded a grassy yard. I guess that s because they didn t need to with all the wide-open spaces. The Facebook group Tri-Cities Garden Girls has lots of suggestions on how to get rid of them before they destroy everything. Some of the suggestions use kill traps or poison, others prefer live traps, and some methods just force them to move on. I haven t decided what to do yet, but poison is out of the question to keep our dog
He s one busy canine. Yesterday we reported that Kennewick s K9 officer Ivan helped sniff out two burglary suspects over the weekend and now Ivan has helped in another burglary case.
Ivan helped in another recent burglary attempt and you d think criminals would get the hint that this crime-busting pooch is on the job so the attempt to evade him isn t even worth the effort.
In a press release from the Kennewick Police Department, K9 Ivan assisted in another break-in attempt, and here s how it all went down in a report filed by the Kennewick Police Department:
On April 12th, 2021 at approximately 3:33 PM Kennewick Police Officers were dispatched to a report of a white bald male attempting to enter a citizen s home in the 400 block of S Rainier St. The male was unable to gain access and fled on foot eastbound to the area of S Olympia St and W 5th Ave.
As a kid living in Washington, I remember a rancher who had bison on his property. That was my first recollection of a wild animal being kept as a pet.
Keeping a bison seems to be legal but it got me curious on what other animals could be illegal to own in the Tri-Cities.
I did a quick search and I was amazed on how many wild animals can t be legally be kept as a pet in the Tri-Cities.
I did a quick search at the Washington State Department of Agriculture and discovered that four laws prevent you from owning several potentially dangerous animals.
Wet Nose Wednesday: Pretty Mama Looking For Home
I thought it best that Luna today tells you her own story:
My name is Luna!
In my past life I produced two litters of puppies for my owner to sell, but then was dumped in a field where my rescuers found me! While staying with my rescuer they discovered I was expecting more puppies (oops!).
This was much more than my rescuer could manage so they asked POPP for help. I had 9 healthy puppies and they are my last (yay!) litter. Now I get to be someone s best friend!
