Leyland micropub given the go-ahead to expand | Lancashire Telegraph

A micropub in Leyland has been given the go-ahead to expand after councillors said they were not concerned about the proposal generating additional noise in the area. The operator of the Market Ale House on Hough Lane was seeking permission to knock through into the former Galloways Bakers premises next door. South Ribble Borough Council’s planning committee had been recommended to delegate the final decision to the authority’s planning boss, pending the outcome of a noise assessment requested by the district’s own environmental health officers. However, committee members approved the proposal outright after warning that the requirement risked placing an unfair financial burden on the business.

'Acrid smell' from blaze at landfill site in Bury affecting people in Lancashire

Acrid smell from blaze at landfill site in Bury affecting people in Lancashire People across Lancashire are being told not to worry if they can smell something disgusting when they step outside their doors. Fire crews battling a blaze in Bury, which Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have declared as a major incident, have told residents in Chorley and South Ribble that the ongoing incident is causing an acrid smell to spread across the county. The smell is being caused by the smoke, which is being carried by wind. While it is not thought to pose a health risk, fire chiefs are advising people to keep their windows and doors closed if they are adversely affected.
