More than 500 new cases of infection have emerged in the past two weeks
In the Algarve, the municipalities of Vila Real de Santo António and Castro Marim are now described as being in a critical situation regarding the tracking and testing of covid-19 among the community. More than 500 new cases of infection have emerged in the past two weeks, which authorities say makes it difficult to track contacts and even conduct tests. Regarding delayed tests, the local mayors said the situation is critical.

Infrastructures of Portugal (IP) has launched the public tender for the electrification contract for the railway section between Tunes and Lagos, on the Algarve Line, representing an investment estimated at €23 million.
In a statement sent to the Lusa agency, the railway management company specified that the intervention covers an extension of 45 kilometers and has an execution period of 23 months, estimating that it will be concluded in 2023.
According to IP, the level crossing located in the vicinity of the Estombar / Lagoa station will be scrapped and “a safer alternative for car and rail traffic, a road overpass will be built in the same place”.

Maritime authorities in Portugal and Spain are conducting searches to find a man who disappeared on Sunday in the Guadiana River, in the Castro Marim municipality.
The captain of the port of Vila Real de Santo António told Lusa agency that the causes of the disappearance of the man in the waters of the river, at about 4 pm on Sunday, near the town of Foz de Odeleite, a river that flows into the Guadiana, are still are being investigated .
According to Rui Vasconcelos de Andrade, the warning was given by two other men who accompanied him spending the day in the area and doing recreational fishing .
