WILTON The Wilton Selectboard discussed options on how to spend funding from the American Rescue Plan Act during its Tuesday meeting.
Town Manager Rhonda Irish presented an idea to “collaborate” with Franklin County to spend the funds in a way that benefits Wilton residents.
“My thoughts are if we can work with the county, maybe there are some things we can work together on, on broadband, on a texting program for emergencies, good old fashioned economic development, put more funds into bringing businesses into Franklin County,” Irish explained.
The idea was originally raised by the Maine Municipal Association, which has suggested that there could be benefits to counties and municipalities working together to spend the ARPA funding.

WILTON Selectperson Tom Saviello presented firmer plans and a budget to the Wilton Select Board for the Wilton Blueberry Festival during their Thursday, June 24, meeting. The festival will take place Friday, August 6, and Saturday, August 7.
Saviello requested $13,000 more from the town, in addition to the $3,000 that was allocated in the recently approved town budget.

“I’m very afraid that if we give (the blueberry festival) up for two years somebody else is going to take the date and we’re not going to have it,” Saviello said. “But (the delayed planning) put us behind the eight ball for fundraising…for getting programs in here.”
Wilton May Hold A Scaled Back Blueberry Festival For 2021
The Wilton Blueberry Festival may be back for 2021…sort of. In May, the Wilton Blueberry Festival decided to cancel the event for this summer. Then the state of Maine dropped the masking and distancing mandates; the committee agreed to stand by their decision to keep the event canceled.
I have been to the Wilton Blueberry Festival a few times, and it is a beautiful event. But I understood where they were coming from. Events take planning, commitments from vendors, volunteers, and everyone was just sort of waiting to see what the summer season of 2021 was going to bring us with all of this.
