Brunswick County announced it has enacted a State of Emergency, which was made effective at noon Wednesday.
The proclamation was made by Randy Thompson, chairman of the Brunswick County Board of Commissioners, less than 48 hours after a tornado killed three, injured 10 and created widespread property damage, most around the Ocean Ridge Plantation neighborhood at Ocean Isle Beach.
Wednesday s move allows for more resources to help in the recovery efforts.

The survey team for the National Weather Service is currently North of U.S. 17, where they believe the tornado traveled after touching down in southern Brunswick County.

A tornado in North Carolina sped through Brunswick County leaving behind three fatalities and more than 10 people injured, Monday night.
Tornado in North Carolina Rips Through Residential Community
According to the director of Brunswick County Emergency Services, Ed Conrow, the twister destroyed several homes and severely damaged some as it ripped through a residential community. The director updated the press of the situation during a press conference that was held early on Tuesday.
In addition, the county s commissioner, Randy Thompson, expressed sadness for the tragic event that happened in his community. Moreover, Conrow also told reporters that there are already emergency responders that have been deployed in the area to secure gas leaks. The responders were also tasked to lead systematic searches in all houses that were impacted by the tornado in North Carolina by the daybreak.

A stormy November and thus-far December have pushed the state to record-setting precipitation, according to the State Climate Office of North Carolina. Last month was also the third warmest November in 126 years.
Wilmington’s National Weather Service is monitoring these same trends.
“Despite no official station in our area reaching 100 degrees yet this summer, we re still running significantly above normal on temperatures,” said Matt Scalora, lead forecaster in Wilmington. “With the exception of Myrtle Beach, all sites are well above normal on rainfall, too.”
