Cape Fear Memorial Bridge (File photo) Area transportation officials have decided not to move forward with exploring a public-private partnership to replace the aging Cape Fear Memorial Bridge with a potential toll facility.
The Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (WMPO) votedâ 7-5 to turn down
the toll bridge concept at its monthly meeting Wednesday afternoon.
In November 2020, the N.C. Department of Transportation received an unsolicited proposal from a private firm for a potential public-private partnership to replace the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge, which included a proposed toll concept as a way to move up the timing for a new bridge.

By Christina Haley O Neal, posted About 7 hours ago TRU Colors investor Molson Coors issued a statement Monday about the double homicide over the weekend that killed one company member at the Wilmington home of TRU Colors COO.
Koredreese Robert Tyson, 29, and Bri-yanna Emily Williams, 21, were shot and killed at the Wilmington home of TRU Colors COO George Taylor III Saturday morning, according to local news reports. Another woman was taken to the hospital with injuries.
Molson Coors Beverage Co. invested in the local brewery, which hires Wilmington gang members and those involved in the gang community as a way to address street violence in the area. The national company was expected to be involved in the distribution of TRU Colors new line of lager when it is released. Brewery production issues stalled the release this summer.
