Renewed school closures not yet warranted in Windsor-Essex — health unit

Article content Another halt to in-person learning is currently unnecessary in Windsor-Essex even though the number of students dismissed because of potential classroom COVID-19 exposures equals those sent home ahead of the last school shutdown, the regionâs top doctor said Tuesday.Â While the whopping 600 students and 30 staff now in self-isolation following infections at 24 schools have put a strain on public health unit nurses, the number of positive cases within that group is much lower than in December, when Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed ordered schools to close. Multiple schools had significant outbreaks at that time, but, as of Tuesday morning, no local schools were in outbreak.

Four new cases of COVID-19 reported at four Windsor-Essex Catholic schools

WINDSOR, ONT. The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board reported four new cases of COVID-19 at four of its schools Monday. New single cases were reported at Immaculate Conception Catholic Elementary School, Holy Cross Catholic Elementary School and St. Angela Catholic Elementary School. Another case was reported at St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic High School bringing the number of cases there to three. While Monday marked the first day of virtual learning for all Windsor-Essex Schools as the region’s medical officer of health, Dr. Wajid Ahmed, ordered schools to close, the WECDSB felt “it was still necessary to keep the school communities informed about the situation,” a news release from the board stated.
