Feb 5, 2021 WAILUKU Police arrested a man who was caught allegedly breaking into a rental car, then crashing a stolen vehicle into two other vehicles while fleeing from police Tuesday in Kihei. Christopher Hoffman, 41, is charged with first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, four counts of habitual property crime, third-degree criminal property damage, attempted fourth-degree theft, two counts of violating public health emergency rules, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, first-degree resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a collision involving damage to property and inattention to driving. During Hoffman’s initial appearance Thursday by videoconference from the Maui Community Correctional Center, Deputy Prosecutor Joshua Kent asked for bail to remain at $15,000.

The Maui News WAILUKU A Hana man was arrested last week after police reported finding drugs and other contraband in his vehicle. Patrick Clark, 50, was charged with second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, prohibited possession of firearm ammunition, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, second-degree promotion of a detrimental drug, fourth-degree promotion of a harmful drug, deadly weapons prohibited, keeping ammunition in an improper place and four counts of possessing drug paraphernalia. Clark was arrested Jan. 13 after police stopped his vehicle, Deputy Prosecutor Brant Yoshimoto said during Clark’s initial appearance Tuesday in Wailuku District Court. After asking for permission to search the vehicle, police recovered drugs and an air gun, Yoshimoto said.

The Maui News WAILUKU Bail was increased to $10,000 for a man who allegedly pushed a barbecue grill into a store manager, then pushed a police officer to the ground before being arrested Friday in Kihei. Maverick Lau, 29, of Kahului was charged with second-degree robbery, first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest. The manager was setting up the grill in the parking lot of Times Supermarket at 1310 S. Kihei Road when Lau allegedly tried to steal the grill, Deputy Prosecutor Brant Yoshimoto said during Lau’s initial appearance Tuesday in Wailuku District Court. When the manager grabbed the grill from Lau, he pushed it into her, causing the grill to fall, Yoshimoto said.
