The Walter Gorra Elevation Trio aims to uplift and elevate the listener through Walter’s newest original compositions and arrangements. Featuring Gonzalo Teppa on bass, and Alejandro Castaño on drums, these long-time friends and Colorado musical accomplices draw from their diverse musical backgrounds to develop an exciting and fresh sound. The trio does this while respecting the tradition and history of jazz and makes its own contributions to the trajectory of the music. Walter Gorra is a Colorado-raised pianist, composer, educator and structural engineer. Studying at the University of Colorado at Boulder, Walter earned degrees in jazz piano performance and structural engineering and had the good fortune to study and work with Art Lande, Jeff Jenkins, Victor Mestas and many other notable Colorado musicians. NJCU to Host Inaugural Student RoundTable Discussion on College Affordability with NJ Secretary for Higher Education, Brian Bridges on May 6

JERSEY CITY, N.J. | New Jersey Secretary of Higher Education Dr. Brian Bridges will join college students, elected officials, and institutional leadership at New Jersey City University (NJCU) on Thursday, May 6 at 2 p.m. to kick off a series of roundtable discussions on college affordability and the $50 million investment in the Fiscal Year 2022 (FY2022) budget toward the Garden State Guarantee (GSG) initiative. On April 15, NJCU became amongst the first four-year institutions in the state to endorse Governor Murphy’s Garden State Guarantee proposal, in a letter to the university community and external audiences. “This hallmark investment will help ensure every New Jersey resident has access to an affordable, high-quality postsecondary education, particularly low-income families who may not be able to afford college without this support,” Secretary Bridges said. “We want students to know that a college degree is truly within reach.”

Webb family to be honored

The Kansan Long time jazz aficionados in Newton remember the Webb Three a group of three kids that would take the stage and play jazz. There was Jacob on bass or piano, Nathan on drums and April on vocals. The siblings played festivals and concerts in the area until Nathan, the oldest, graduated high school and headed off to college in 2004. They will be playing again this weekend, part of the Newton USD 373 Pops and Jazz Concert at 8 p.m. May 8 in  Athletic Park.  We are excited that we get to come back and perform with what started our musical journey, said April May Haywood. 

Lara Dugolinsky appointed FMS principal – Fluvanna Review

Press release The Fluvanna County School Board on April 12 unanimously approved the appointment of Lara Dugolinksy as the new Fluvanna Middle School Principal (FMS). “I am truly excited about Ms. Dugolinsky taking over the helm as the Fluvanna Middle School. Lara brings a wealth of experiences and knowledge to this position. She has been a wonderful asset to our school system and I know that she will continue to help us grow and move forward together for our children,” stated Chuck Winkler, superintendent. Dugolinky has been an assistant principal at FMS since January 1, 2019 and is a graduate of William Paterson University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in community health. She also holds a Masters in administration and supervision as well as a Masters in special education from the University of Phoenix.
