Megalodon Babies Grew by Eating Unhatched Eggs in Womb, Study Finds

New research released Sunday suggests Megalodon shark pups were born larger than most human adults, about 6.6 feet long, and feasted on unhatched embryos to reach such a large size. Identified annual growth bands in a vertebra of the extinct megatooth shark Otodus megalodon shown with hypothetical silhouettes of the shark at birth and death, each compared with the size of typical adult human. (Credit: DePaul University/Kenshu Shimada) (CN) As with most prehistoric sharks, little is known about their biology or behavior as the information scientists do have mainly comes from fossilized teeth, despite the animal leaving behind an otherwise rich fossil record. Those teeth are thought to have been able to exert an incredible 24,000 to 41,000 pounds-per-feet of bite force more than enough to crush bone.

Why climate science doesn t go viral on YouTube

After years of being studiously neutral, YouTube is now putting its thumb on the algorithmic scale for science. But because of the way the online video giant works, it hasn’t been noticeable to many people. Pixabay Greg Brown and Mitchell Moffit posted a video to YouTube engineered to get your clicks. They gave it an alluring title: “The Biggest Lie About Climate Change.” What is the lie? What do they think is true? You must click to see. Like much on YouTube, clips about climate science tends to circulate more when framed this way. “It works,” says Brown. “Outside of that, we’ve had a hard time grasping people’s eyes.”

Megalodon, the largest species of shark ever to have existed in Earth s history, likely had a somewhat gruesome method for getting a head start in life. According to new research, the pups of the Megalodon shark ( Otodus megalodon) are larger than most humans when they re born. This suggests that they hatched in the womb and were born live - and, like modern sharks that give birth to live young, grew by eating their unhatched siblings in utero.

College freshman from N.J. designs COVID-themed chessboard [nj.com] As The Queen’s Gambit fervor continues to sweep the nation, a college freshman has combined the only two things that seem to be on everybody’s mind of late: COVID-19 and chess. The unlikely mash-up resulted in a “COVID-19 Quarantine Essentials” chessboard, whose checkered squares sit atop a first-aid box fau00e7ade and which features a Clorox bottle as the knight, toilet paper as the bishop and Purell as the queen. The brainchild of William Paterson University freshman Nicholas Montesano, 18, the design came about after 3D Design Professor Henry Yoo assigned students to create a themed chess board. Inspired by the pandemic, Montesano ditched his earlier concepts, like a cartoon or skyscraper theme, and opted for something timelier and more resonant.
