Suspect Arrested In Connection With The Discovery Of Human Remains Near Prescott
Yavapai County Sheriff’s investigators have made an arrest in connection with the discovery of human remains near Prescott recently. Deputies were called to an area off Contreras Road, North of Iron Springs Road where human remains were found Saturday. Then additional remains were found Sunday in the Camp Wood area off Williamson Valley, northwest of Prescott. Using evidence recovered from the scene, detectives discovered the remains were likely connected to a business based in Seattle, Washington, identified as “Future GenX.” Fifty-nine-year-old Walter Mitchell owned the business, which involved the management of cadavers for research and had recently closed. Working with local police in the Seattle area, detectives obtained information that Mitchell left Seattle in 2020 with human remains belonging to five people. Human body parts that authorities say may have been intended for medical research were found this weekend in northern Arizona.
According to a statement released Sunday by the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were notified about the remains near Prescott on Saturday and an examination confirmed they were human. This was in a remote area off Contreras Road, north of Iron Springs Road (County Road 10), outside of Prescott.

The area was secured and detectives from the Criminal Investigations Bureau were notified, authorities said. The investigation continued until dark and resumed Sunday morning with assistance from the Yavapai County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The human body parts appear to be from a medical institution and were apparently meant for research. However, it's illegal to just dump human body parts. "Abandoning remains is a serious crime," the sheriff's office said.

Investigators are looking into the discovery of possible human remains found in a remote area near Prescott Saturday. Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies were called to an area off Contreras Road, North of Iron Springs Road about the discovery. Then additional remains were found Sunday in the Camp Wood area off Williamson Valley, northwest of Prescott. Preliminary evidence indicates are associated with the remains found Saturday. Yavapai County Medical Examiner’s say evidence shows the remains are from a medical institution intended for use in the educational and research field. Also, detectives have found what are commonly known as ‘puppy pads’ at both sites along with gauze like material. These pads are also used in hospital settings for patients who are incontinent.
