Man taken to hospital after being hit by police cruiser in Brampton

A man was seriously injured after being hit by a police cruiser in Brampton Wednesday evening. Const. Akhil Mooken said police were on their way to an unrelated call when they came upon a two-vehicle collision near the intersection of Chinguacousy Road and Williams Parkway after 9:30 p.m. As police were approaching the scene, a cruiser collided with a pedestrian, Mooken said. An adult male was taken to hospital, Peel paramedics said, with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Mooken said the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been notified but has not invoked its mandate. The SIU investigates incidents involving police officers where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.

Cedar Rapids & Hiawatha To Welcome New Locally-Owned Restaurants

A pair of new restaurants are coming to the northeast side of Cedar Rapids, and Hiawatha. The owners of Vivian s Soul Food are opening a new, quick-service restaurant in the Fountains, at the corner of Blairs Ferry Road and Edgewood Road N.E. Co-owner Briana Smallwood tells me the new restaurant, which will be called Vivian s Express Grill, will offer scratch kitchen quick service. She went on to say, We will be carrying all of our menu items made on the grill or in fryer from our anchor location (on Williams Parkway) over to the Fountains (i.e. po boys, chicken & waffles), and will be introducing new menu items as well, such as several Phillies and gourmet salads. If people are on the go and need a fast grab, they can place their order at the Fountains and be in and out. Just like at Vivian’s Soul Food, our menu is 100% from scratch. Nothing frozen, canned or bagged.
