M&A Report 2021: Japan | International Financial Law Review

March 16 2021 The Japanese M&A market in 2020, like markets globally, was deeply impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Notably, there was a dramatic decrease in outbound deal volume with Japanese corporations instead focusing on the domestic market. Japanese companies continued the trend of shedding non-core assets and consolidating their businesses. According to data from Dealogic, Japan s M&A deal volume in 2020 fell to 538 total transactions, with a total deal value of over $73 billion. Although deal volume was down from 2019, globally Japan was only surpassed by Germany, the US and the UK in terms of total deal value. The sectors producing the largest number of transactions were retail, financial services, and chemicals.

Richardson School of Law professor’s book highlighting breastfeeding, race and injustice. Professor Andrea Freeman’s Skimmed: Breastfeeding, Race and Injustice has gained wide acclaim and she has been a sought-after speaker at seminars and forums nationally and internationally. The symposium on Friday, March 12, 12–2 p.m. via Zoom will be hosted by California Western School of Law President and Dean Sean Scott. Dean Scott will introduce Freeman who will give a keynote address followed by comments from an outstanding panel. Participants can register online.

UH Mānoa team helps vaccinate elderly Filipino residents | University of Hawaiʻi System News

UH and community volunteers at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa vaccination clinic. On March 6, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa faculty, staff and students actively involved in the local Filipino community helped to conduct full health assessments and vaccinate the elderly 75 and older and those 65 to 74 years old with pre-existing conditions. In partnership with the Filipino Community Center ( FilCom), Kalihi-Palama Health Center and multiple Filipino community organizations, the event was held at Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa in Kalihi. It was the first of several COVID-19 vaccination clinics that will be taking place at various churches across Oʻahu in an effort to provide outreach to those who cannot access vaccination websites to make an appointment.
