With the changing of each year, LNP | LancasterOnline staff compile a list of trends and events that could impact the county.   Looking back at our story on trends at the start of 2020 is like looking in a time capsule in some ways, with trends focused largely on development – from new Rutters and Sheetz to the Rock Lititz expansion to projects in Lancaster city – and on education and health care trends that had nothing to do with distance learning or COVID-19. Instead, school start times and student privacy were the burgeoning local stories. If we learned anything in 2020, it’s that we can’t fully predict what will be news in unprecedented times. That said, we have taken a look at some of the trends and events LNP reporters will be covering in 2021. Here’s our list.

Senior living facilities receive first doses of COVID-19 vaccine

COVID-19 vaccinations begin for seniors and staff at skilled care facilities across the Commonwealth. Author: Rachel Yonkunas (FOX43) Updated: 10:21 PM EST December 28, 2020 LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. Nursing homes and skilled care facilities in Pennsylvania have started to receive their first doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine. Willow Valley Communities in Willow Street, Lancaster County, received 315 doses for their 55+ Senior Living Community.  Residents and team members at the Glen, one of Willow Valley s skilled care facilities, are among the first to roll up their sleeves. The center will also vaccinate residents and team members at Lakeside another one of their skilled care facilities.

Willow Valley proposes 20-story, $90M high-rise in downtown Lancaster; would be taller than Griest Building

Willow Valley Communities on Monday announced plans to develop a 20-story apartment building in downtown Lancaster, across the street from Southern Market Center. The 244-foot-high building would be the tallest in Lancaster County, surpassing the 19-floor Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square a block away by 34 feet. Named Willow Valley Mosaic, with an estimated cost exceeding $90 million, the upscale development would consist of 147 apartments as well as a host of resort-quality amenities for its residents, who would be ages 55 and up.
