Johnson City Man Gets 5 Years in Prison for Possessing Loaded Gun
A Broome County resident is heading to state prison after he admitted possessing a loaded handgun on Binghamton s West Side.
21-year-old Tariq Johnson of Johnson City was sentenced in Broome County Court on Tuesday to 5 years in prison. Prosecutors say Johnson pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Authorities had said Johnson was taken into custody shortly after a May 20 shooting incident at Saratoga Avenue and Delmar Street on Binghamton s South Side.
City police stopped Johnson on Jerome Avenue on the West Side.
Investigators said a 15-year-old boy was charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting in which several shots reportedly were fired. The boy s name was not made public and the status of his case was not known.

Johnson City Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Fatal Stabbing
Caleb Casteline of Johnson City was sentenced in Broome County Court Thursday to 20 years in prison.
Casteline had pleaded guilty in October to first-degree manslaughter in the killing of 22-year-old Q-Quan Richardson. The attack happened August 26 during an altercation at an outdoor party off Robinson Hill Road.
Investigators had said the 20-year-old Casteline repeatedly stabbed Richardson at the gathering which was attended by a large group of people.
Casteline was taken into custody in Apalachin several hours after Richardson was attacked.
