The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) yesterday, condemned in strong terms the attack on players and officials of a Nigerian Professional Football League team, Adamawa United while on their way to honour a Match day 11 fixture with MFM FC of Lagos.
The body also wants security agencies to leave no stone unturned in the effort to rescue the Team bus’ driver, Kabiru Mohammed, who was abducted by the attackers who are now asking for a staggering sum of N40million ransom.
The criminals dispossessed the players of all their belongings including cash and phones during the attack that took place on the Benin-Ore highway.
The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has promised N20m reward for players and officials of Rivers United, if they will beat fellow Nigeria Professional Football League side, Enyimba FC in the first leg of the second Preliminary Round of the CAF Confederation Cup this Sunday in Aba. How would you describe sports in 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic?
We just need to be thankful to God for keeping us alive. No one is praying for a year like that again. The pandemic ruined things for everybody. A lot of people you never thought would pass away did as a result of the pandemic. I had some issues with coronavirus too, but I give thanks to God that I was able to come back stronger. Generally, 2020 was a bad year for sports in Lagos, the country and worldwide. That’s why we are hoping for a better 2021.
