Attempts are being made to threaten farmer leaders through notices by agencies like the NIA, Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday said. He also accused the Centre of being insincere in talks over the farm laws and said the government is only trying to tire out farmers . “Simultaneously, it (Centre) is intimidating farmers by issuing notices to them through various agencies like the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Farmers are not anti-nationals. We condemn this,” said Badal.

Farmers reject govt offer to amend laws as ninth round of talks get underway at Vigyan Bhawan

The ninth round of talks between the government and protesting farmer unions ended without any major conclusion on Friday. The meeting which continued for over five hours failed to break the deadlock over the three farm laws. Both the sides will now meet again on January 19. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Railways, Commerce and Food Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for Commerce Som Parkash, who is an MP from Punjab,  were present during the meeting with the representatives of around 40 farmer unions which was held at the Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi.

New Delhi: Hitting out at the centre over an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court against the farmers parade on Republic Day, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today referred to the deaths of those who have died after thousands started camping near Delhi s borders. In its affidavit, the centre has underlined that Republic Day parade disruption will be an embarrassment to the nation . Amid deadlock over the three new agricultural laws, which have now been put on hold by the Supreme Court, the farmers have threatened to intensify their agitation by taking out a massive tractor rally in the heart of the national capital and other parts of the country.
