On the pretext of the farmers agitation, the opposition is trying to make inroads among the Jat community who have a strong influence in 50 Assembly seats in western Uttar Pradesh. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has become wary of the opposition s attempts and plans to field Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan and other Jat leaders to counter the opposition, said sources.

Odisha relaxes land holding limit for industry
The Odisha government has relaxed the land ceiling limit, allowing companies to purchase 100 acres of private land in urban areas for setting up industries.
According to the notification issued by the Revenue and Disaster Management (R&DM) Department on Monday, after negotiation with land owners, private players can now purchase land up to 500 acres against the earlier cap of 200 acres of dry land or equivalent areas of irrigated land or wetland in rural areas.

The crowd of farmers is thinning around Delhi borders at Ghazipur and Singhu as the protest against the Centre s new farm laws entered its 83rd day with no breakthrough in sight. Many of the farmers are on their way back to the villages. From the thousands camping at the protest site barely a month ago, only half the number remain.
