Farmers Protest in Delhi: The policemen were seen running or hiding behind cars as farmers chased them.

Thousands of protesters broke through barricades, attacked policemen with sticks and vandalised a police vehicle after deviating from the agreed route of a farmers tractor rally and reaching the heart of Delhi.

In visuals emerging from ITO, one of the main intersections in Delhi near media offices and the police headquarters, policemen in riot gear appeared to be outnumbered. The policemen were seen running or hiding behind cars as farmers armed with sticks chased them.
The protesting farmers were seen vandalizing a public bus and trying to topple it. Two buses had been used to block the farmers from progressing further on the crucial road connecting to the top government offices in the capital.

Farmers, protesting at Delhi borders over the Centre s farm laws, are all geared up to carry out a tractor march on Republic Day on Tuesday. The farmers union reached an
agreement with the Delhi Police on Sunday to carry out the tractor march peacefully. Three routes, originating from Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur border points, have been finalized for the march, a farmer leader said.
The
Delhi Police said that the first route will begin from Singhu border and will move from Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar to Bawana. Similarly, 62-km long second route will pass through Nangloi-Najafgarh and Jharoda after starting from Tikri border. The third route will lead to Apsara border and Hapur after starting from Ghazipur. All of these processions will converge at Kundli Manesar Palwal Expressway (KMP).

The law enforcement personnel deployed for security at the Republic Day parade in New Delhi are required to be on alert for law and order arrangements during the farmers tractor march, the Delhi police commissioner said on Sunday. All officers and men, as well as CAPF and other force deployed for Republic Day Parade security, should remain in a ready position to move at short notice for law and order arrangement in connection with Kisan tractor rally, the commissioner said in a statement.

Farmers to conduct tractor rally on Jan 26
Farmers unions that have been protesting against the farm laws said on Saturday that they have reached a breakthrough with Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh police over the proposed tractor march on Republic Day. Samyukta Kisan Morcha said that their leaders were able to jointly finalise routes for the Kisan Republic Day parade. Preparations are in full swing for disciplined conduct of the same. Response from farmers and their supporters has been tremendous from all over the country, the statement said.

Farmers continue their tussle with the government and the demand to repeal the new farm laws. While the government s tough stance has made sure that the matter now ends up in court, the public seems to be backing the Centre. According to findings from the Mood of the Nation poll, 80 per cent of respondents backed the government s handling of the issue. Only 16 per cent were not happy with the government s handling of the issue.
