France, after Germany, on Thursday reached out to India following the Comprehensive Agreement on Investment (CAI) with China and asserted that while Beijing is a partner it is also a competitor as well as systemic rival. This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron’s diplomatic advisor Emmanuel Bonne while speaking to a select group of audience at the leading think-tank Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) following his Strategic Dialogue with NSA Ajit Doval. Bonne will meet the Foreign Minister as well as Foreign Secretary on Friday.

On a visit to India for the annual strategic dialogue between France and India, Emmanuel Bonne, the diplomatic advisor to French President Emmanuel Macron, said, When China breaks the rules, we have to be very robust and very clear and this is the sense of our naval presence in the Indian Ocean. Delivering a talk on France and India: Partners for a Stable and Prosperous Indo-Pacific , organised by the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF), Bonne also said France is close to the QUAD the grouping of US, Japan, Australia and India and may hold some naval exercises with them in future.
