COVID-19 surge testing to continue at some UW campuses By FOX6 News Digital Team Published  University of Wisconsin System President Tommy Thompson announced an extension of community COVID-19 surge testing sites at some UW System campuses Monday. More than 220,000 free tests had been administered through last week, most of the 22 surge testing sites were scheduled to close. However, in partnership with the UW System, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will be providing 140,000 additional Abbott BinaxNOW tests and associated confirmatory PCR tests for use across Wisconsin in the coming weeks. Not all original sites will continue surge testing.

University of Wisconsin System President Tommy Thompson today told farm owners, agriculture and dairy officials, and researchers that the System’s effort to add agriculture extension agents is another illustration of the renewed Wisconsin Idea. Thompson spoke to the 2021 Wisconsin Agribusiness Classic on the final day of its annual conference. It is Wisconsin’s largest agriculture industry conference, now in its 60 th year. “There is a long history of the University of Wisconsin working closely with Wisconsin’s agriculture and dairy industries,” Thompson said. “From the beginning, our commitment to the Wisconsin Idea has been linked to agriculture and dairy – working to help solve the challenges facing Wisconsin farmers.”

We all want to smash COVID, and I’m happy to join President Thompson in bringing attention to these free tests. Keep ‘er Movin’ Wisconsin – through the COVID testing line,  said Charlie Berens. Now more than 170,000 free tests using the Abbot BinaxNOW rapid-results antigen test have been administered at Wisconsin’s 22 surge testing sites on or near UW System campuses, identifying nearly 14,000 potential positive carriers of the virus who have been advised to isolate.
