Why should this investigation be secret? - Isthmus

“Why should this investigation be secret?” Madison school district won’t release report on former East teacher involved in hidden camera incident WIkimedia Commons District officials are refusing to release a 2020 report detailing an investigation into a former Madison East High School educator.  David Kruchten allegedly placed hidden cameras in the hotel bathrooms of students he was chaperoning on school trips. Students found these cameras concealed in smoke detectors, alarm clocks and air fresheners while at a conference in Minneapolis in October 2019. Kruchten was arrested in January 2020 and faces state and federal charges for attempting to produce child pornography. Promising in February 2020 to review “every detail” of the incident, then-superintendent Jane Belmore told parents in an email that a private attorney had been hired to conduct an independent, internal review of the incident. Becky Blank: UW chancellor apologizes over public records

The Associated Press MADISON – University of Wisconsin-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank apologized after it was reported that she suggested to other Big Ten leaders that their emails related to the COVID-19 pandemic be moved to a private portal. Blank issued the apology Monday in a statement to the Wisconsin State Journal. The Washington Post on Friday first reported on Blank and other Big Ten leaders’ emails in a story explaining the efforts they made to hide their discussions from taxpayers who fund their universities. Blank suggested moving discussions to the private platform in response to University of Michigan President Mark Schlissel asking Big Ten colleges and presidents in late August to confidentially compare notes about COVID-19 on their campuses as the fall semester loomed.

UW System reviewing matter after report UW-Madison chancellor kept Big Ten communications from public

MADISON, Wis. The UW System is reviewing communications involving UW-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank after reports that she kept those discussions last fall out of the public eye, according to a spokesperson. In response, Blank is apologizing for the ‘appearance’ of skirting public record laws last fall during Big Ten discussions about a return to campus and football season plans. The announcement comes in the wake of a Washington Post report that Blank worked with other Big Ten presidents and chancellors to try to keep communications private using a third-party platform. Big Ten was the first of the major college conferences to announce a delayed season, but reversed that call a month later after public controversy and pressure from President Donald Trump.
