The federal government is shipping $3.2 billion in stimulus money to Wisconsin and Gov. Tony Evers and the Republican-controlled Legislature have dueling visions on how to spend it and who should control the purse strings. The Republican Legislature began hearings Tuesday on a series of bills, introduced late Friday, that are made up of pieces of an overall attempt to seize control of Wisconsin’s share of the federal $1.9 trillion national American Rescue Plan (ARP) package enacted in March.

Today’s announcement comes as the WEDC also announced a new report, ‘Wisconsin Tomorrow: Building an Economy for All,’ outlining the state’s post-pandemic economic recovery and calling for investments in the economic well-being of all Wisconsinites, including small business support.

By Jaymes Langrehr Apr 6, 2021 10:43 AM MADISON, Wis. More than 9,000 Wisconsin businesses are going to be getting some much-needed help in the form of $5,000 grants, Gov. Tony Evers and other state agencies announced Tuesday. An estimated 9,300 small businesses across the state will be getting the grants through the “We’re All In” program, totaling more than $46 million funded through the CARES Act, according to the governor’s office, the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation and the Department of Revenue. To this point, more than $370 million in CARES Act funding has gone to support Wisconsin businesses during the pandemic. More than $240 million of that has been used in the governor’s “We’re All In” grant program, which has awarded money in several phases.
