RICHFIELD â Whether you call it sappin season, sugarin season, or syrup season, sap is bursting out of maple trees ready for harvesting.
In Richfield, volunteers at the historical society are busy at work to make the most of the short sappin season. It lasts roughly from March to April when the conditions are just right. Ideally, you have nights below freezing, daytime temperatures in the 40 s, Dave Derrick, a volunteer with the Richfield Historical Society said.

Several maple syrup youth ambassadors of their respective states have joined together to form the Maple Coalition. Their group has been collaborating on projects for several months, deciding how best to help promote pure maple syrup.
Maple Coalition members include Kenni Bores, Wisconsin maple marketing intern; Erin Wrisley, 2019-2020 Pennsylvania maple ambassador; Landis Crawford, 2020-2021 Pennsylvania maple ambassador; Rebecca Coombe, 2020 New York State maple queen; and Kyle Hale, 2020 New York State maple king.
The first project is the Pass the Maple Challenge, a video-recorded task where they toss around a jug of maple syrup, with each person sharing a fact about the nutritious product.
