According to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection , Wisconsin farmers intend to plant 4.15 million acres of corn for all purposes in 2021. This is up 150,000 acres from 2020. Producers intend to plant 2.25 million acres of soybeans in Wisconsin this year. This is a 250,000 acre increase from 2020. If realized, this would be Wisconsin’s largest planted acreage on record. Farmers in Wisconsin expect to harvest 1.20 million acres of all hay for the 2021 crop year. Even with all that money, experts in the field still have to figure out the best ways to invest it. A roundtable on the challenges rural areas face on lack of access to high-speed internet, or to a connection at all, was held in early April with several members of the agriculture industry in Wisconsin. Randy Romanski, secretary-designee of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, led the roundtable and explained that DATCP is deeply involved in the effort to get broadband out to those who need it most.

Although existing federal regulations are clear, the FDA has not enforced these labeling regulations and the mislabeling of plant-based imitation dairy products as ‘milk’, ‘yogurt’ and ‘cheese’ has increased rapidly. This hurts dairy farmers that work tirelessly to ensure their Made in Wisconsin dairy products meet FDA standards and provide the public with nutritious food. It has also led to the proliferation of mislabeled alternative products that contain a range of ingredients and nutrients that are often not equivalent to the nutrition content of dairy products.
