Bloody Elbow presents its fight night and post-fight coverage for
UFC 261, which goes down on April 24th at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, FL. In the main event, Kamaru Usman defends his welterweight title against Jorge Masvidal in a rematch of their UFC 251 bout, which Usman easily won by decision over the late replacement Masvidal.
The co-main event is women’s strawweight title defense for Weili Zhang against former champion Rose Namajunas. This is Zhang’s first fight since her classic with Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 248 last year. In the first of three title bouts, women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko puts her belt on the line against former strawweight champ Jessica Andrade.
Kamaru Usman
Welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, was set to put his belt on the line in an eagerly anticipated main event against Gilbert Burns at UFC 251 last July. However, Gilbert Burns tested positive for Covid-19 and was forced to pull out of the bout. Jorge Masvidal stepped in at six days’ notice to lock horns with the champion.
Usman made short work of Masvidal on the sunny confines of Fight Island, showcasing his welterweight supremacy against a battle-hardened Masvidal. It was ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ that got his hand raised as the champion won via unanimous decision to retain the welterweight strap.
