32 House GOP Demand Pelosi, Schumer Reopen U S Capitol to the Public

14 May 2021 Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL), joined by 31 members of the Republican Conference, sent a letter Friday to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and the Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), demanding the Capitol be open for the public to access without restriction. In a letter, the Republican members of Congress requested for the public to regain access to the national Capitol without “restrictions that require visitors to be on a preapproved list,” including letting the House and Senate office buildings be open so the “American people could easily access their elected representatives.” The letter from the group of Republicans asked for Pelosi and Schumer to “lift COVID-19 restrictions limiting public access to the United States Capitol.”

The Congressional Art Competition is open to all public, private, charter and home school high school students. The winning pieces are featured for one year in the Cannon Tunnel, which connects the House Office Buildings to the U.S. Capitol. They will also be featured on Fischbach s social media pages. The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 as an opportunity for members of Congress to recognize and encourage the artistic talent of their young constituents. Since then, more than 650,000 high-school students have participated in the nation-wide contest.

Cairo student Decoske s artwork is second best in Congressional Art Competition for Missouri Moberly Monitor-Index Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-04) announced the winners of the 39th annual Congressional Art Competition for Missouri’s Fourth Congressional District. High school students from local school districts submitted artwork that was judged at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg exhibition. Each year, students are presented with a different theme for the district art competition. This year’s theme was centered around Missouri’s bicentennial. According to a press release Wednesday from Congresswoman Hartzler s office, Emily Decoske, a senior attending Northeast High School in Cairo, was awarded second place in this statewide competition. Her watercolor and ink artwork titled “Fishing Trip” captures a moment in early spring.
