On July 27, four Capitol Police officers testified before the new House Select Committee on the January 6th Insurrection and told heartbreaking tales of the riotous mob that tore into the Capitol on Jan. 6. The emotion was palpable, both from the policemen and from the members of Congress that shared their fear during the riot. Empathy was almost demanded by this frightening recounting.
This didn t feel political. This was just a horrible human experience. But that s not how the media is going to mediate it. This is a political story. You can pretend it s not political, but even that pretense is political.

Taking aim at GOP leaders, Kinzinger said, “my party has treated this as just a another partisan fight. It’s toxic.”
Kinzinger and Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., are the two Republicans on the panel, both appointed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., prompting House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., to try to dismiss them as “Pelosi Republicans.”

Four police officers delivered graphic, riveting testimony Tuesday about their violent clashes with rioters while defending the US Capitol on January 6, as a congressional panel launched its probe of the deadly insurrection.
Defying several Republicans openly opposed to scrutinizing the attack blamed on supporters of former president Donald Trump, the witnesses described being punched, kicked, pepper sprayed, threatened with death and branded traitors by a rampaging mob intent on blocking certification of Joe Biden s election victory.
