Chris Sprowls announced Wednesday that the Legislature will convene May 17-21 to consider the proposed new Seminole Compact.
In a memo, Sprowls said House committee meetings would be held May 17-18. Meanwhile, the Senate Appropriations Committee is set to take up the proposal May 17 and consider it on the chamber floor May 18.
The new compact, which the Governor and Seminole Tribe hammered out last month, would boost state revenues by an estimated $2.5 billion over five years and by $6 billion through 2030.

The Seminole Tribe of Florida is out with a new 60-second ad, aiming to rally support for a new gaming Compact with the state. The ad drops around two weeks before a Special Legislative Session will convene to finalize that agreement.
The new minute long-spot, titled “
The Seminole Story,” highlights existing economic benefits from the current gaming structure and argues the new compact will expand those benefits.
“Amid a storm of challenge and loss, this Florida story gave rise to hope and our spirit to persevere,” the ad’s narrator begins.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended local COVID-19 emergency orders Monday and signed a proposal lawmakers approved last week that limits the government s ability to impose mask requirements and other social distancing measures used to combat the coronavirus this past year.
The measure, Senate Bill 2006, also makes permanent DeSantis executive order that prohibits vaccine passports, saying it is unnecessary to be policing people at this point. I think if you are saying that you are really saying you don t believe in the vaccines, you don t believe in the data, you don t believe in science, DeSantis said at a bill signing ceremony in St. Petersburg.
