Progressive Club to hold monthly meeting

The Progressive Club of the Islands will hold its virtual monthly meeting on Feb. 18 at 4 p.m.
The guest speaker will be U.S. Rep. Van Demings, D-Orlando, who serves the 10th Congressional District. She will speak on the current challenges in Florida and America and the necessary actions that need to be undertaken.
Born in Jacksonville, Demings worked as a social worker, then joined the Orlando Police Department. Over a 27-year career, she served in many roles, including commander of the Airport Division during Sept. 11, commander of special operations, member of the Crisis Negotiation Team, commander of the Critical Incident Stress Management Team and executive vice president of the International Association of Airport and Seaport Police.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 1, 2021 /PRNewswire/ NASA has named appointees for senior agency positions. Bhavya Lal joins the agency as acting chief of staff, Phillip Thompson will serve as White House liaison, Alicia Brown will serve as associate administrator for the Office of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs, and Marc Etkind will serve as associate administrator for the agency’s Office of Communications. In addition, Jackie McGuinness will join the agency as press secretary and Reagan Hunter will serve as special assistant for the agency’s Office of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs.

WASHINGTON Dressed in a dark suit and sporting a black face mask, San Antonio Rep. Joaquin Castro on Monday evening joined eight of his House colleagues in marching two by two, silent and stone-faced, to the Senate with a single article of impeachment.
For the second time in as many years, a Texas Democrat was there to help prosecute a case against Donald Trump.
Castro is one of nine impeachment managers selected to seek the former president’s conviction in connection with the deadly Capitol insurrection. He’s following the path of Houston Rep. Sylvia Garcia, who was on the House team last year for the impeachment trial over Trump’s Ukraine dealings.
