Home Builders Association predicts strong activity in 2021 - Grand Rapids Business Journal

Grand Rapids Business Journal Photo by iStock Single-family home construction shows a strong pandemic recovery, according to the latest numbers from the Home Builders Association of Michigan. Residential permit data, compiled by HBAM from U.S. Census Bureau reporting, showed a total of 13,551 single-family home permits issued across Michigan from January through November 2020. A total of 1,213 permits were issued in November 2020, which was nearly 23% higher than November 2019. It also marked six consecutive months above the 1,200 permits-per-month threshold. Lastly, the 10,451 permits issued from May through November 2020 outpaced the 10,060 permits an increase of nearly 4% issued during the same timeframe in 2019. “The higher number of permits issued since May, including November’s large increase over 2019, leads me to the conclusion that the energy for new home construction in Michigan continues,” said Bob Filka, CEO of HBAM. “We continue to work closely with our

Thousands respond to vaccination pre-registration | News, Sports, Jobs

cbleck@miningjournal.net MARQUETTE As of late Tuesday, over 4,700 Marquette County residents have responded to the COVID-19 vaccination pre-registration system. The Marquette County Health Department announced that the system for individuals age 65 and over launched at 10 a.m. Monday, and will continue to be available either online at mqthealth.org or by phone at 906-475-7847 until further notice. Phone lines will be staffed from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for those who need assistance or who do not have internet access. Individuals who have registered online will receive email confirmation, although the MCHD noted some people have reported the confirmation was sent to junk mailboxes.

David Compo (Photo: Compo Builders) The victims in the small plane crash that killed three Saturday in Lyon Township have been identified. They are David Compo, his wife, Michelle, and son, Dawson. Compo was co-owner of Compo Builders in Novi, which he operated with his brother. Compo was flying the small plane, which crashed into a house, setting it ablaze. The residents escaped.  The family was returning home from Canton, Georgia where they had been since December 29. They were just a half-mile from their destination to the Oakland Southwest Airport according to a news release from the (Homebuilders Association of Michigan, where Compo is president).
